Rachel Maxi - Paradise Built October 3-28, 2006 BAAS ART GALLERY 2703 East Madison, Seattle, WA 98112 info@baasartgallery.com Opening Reception: Wednesday October 4th, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Maxi is an accomplished painter whose compositions often examine the forgotten corners and odd spaces of contemporary life. In this recent series, she turns her eye to the landscape of Palm Springs, California, a place "created for pleasure and relaxation”, and finds a landscape built on dichotomies: inside and outside, wet and dry, nature and artifice. Painted with a polished yet ambiguous realism, Maxi’s works examine our vision of the good life, and find it strangely signified in sprinklers, swimming pools, and empty lots awaiting construction. | |
